Janusz Bałdyga
Performer and creator of objects, born in 1954 in Lublin, Poland. He studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, graduating in 1979 from the studio of Professor Stefan Gierowski. Between 1976 and 1981, he was a member and co-founder of the Pracownia Dziekanka artistic collective. Since 1979, he has been a member of the Akademia Ruchu (Academy of Movement).
He is a faculty member at the University of the Arts Poznań, where he heads the Performance Art Studio within the Faculty of Sculpture. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, symposia, and artistic events in Poland and abroad, including in Germany, the Netherlands, Scotland, Austria, Russia, Taiwan, Switzerland, Israel, Norway, Spain, Japan, Indonesia, Ukraine, China, Canada, and the United States.
Bałdyga has developed a distinctive artistic language characterized by a consistent reduction of means of expression and articulation. In his performance works, the artist’s body becomes both a structural element of the action and a tool for mapping and describing space. While the social, political, and philosophical undertones of his performances often refer to specific cultural traditions, they simultaneously preserve the universal dimension of his deeply personal artistic statements.
