Katarzyna Czarnota – sociologist, employee of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, member of Border Forensics, and research fellow at the University of Bern. She is involved in Prof. Charles Heller’s project “The Circumference of Violence – Tracing the Normalisation and Brutalisation of Violence across Europe’s Shifting External Borders.”

In her academic and advocacy work, she uses methodologies for diagnosing and mapping social problems, supporting advocacy activities and strategic communication. Between 2015 and 2019, she carried out research projects on forced migration and border regimes, including in Turkey, Greece and on the so-called Balkan Route.

Since 2021, she has been monitoring the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border. She cooperates with the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, carrying out activities in cooperation with the investigative agency Border Forensics, which documents violence at Europe’s borders.

She is the author and host of the Migracje.Info (HFPC) podcast. She also collaborates with Czas Kultury (Stany Wyjątkowe podcast) and the Polish edition of Le Monde diplomatique.
