Joanna Warsza i Övül Ö. Durmuşoğlu
Joanna Warsza is a curator, editor, and writer and since October 2024 a city curator of Hamburg. Over the years she has worked more often outside the protection of the white cubes on large scale projects. In the recent years she co-curated the exhibition Radical Playgrounds at Gropius Bau in Berlin (2024), the Polish Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale with the work of Roma artist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas, as well as the 3rd and the 4th Autostrada Biennale in Kosovo. She was previously an Associate Curator of the 7th Berlin Biennale and Artistic Director of Public Art Munich 2018. Her interests span the concepts of performativity, the public sphere, feminism, politics and decoloniality in Eastern Europe. Her recent publications include Assuming Asymmetries and Curating beyond the Mainstream, published by Konstfack and Sternberg Press in 2022. Originally from Warsaw, she lives in Berlin and Hamburg.
Övül Ö. Durmuşoğlu is a curator, writer, and educator working on constructive critiques of civilization, sustainability of intersectional futures, and practices of togetherness. She co-leads the Art in Discourse program at HBK Braunschweig University of Art. Planetary Peasants at Museum Moritzburg, Halle, in collaboration with Werkleitz Festival and New Art Section of Art Rotterdam are her ongoing curatorial engagements. Among the monographic exhibitions she curated are Nil Yalter’s The Story Behind Each Word Must Be Told, Ab-Anbar Gallery, London (2024); Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz’s Portrait of a Movement at CA2M, Madrid, and Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm (2022–23), Katrina Daschner’s Burn&Gloom, Glow &Moon: Thousand Years of Troubled Genders’ at Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna (2022). Between 2020 and 2023 she co-curated the 3rd and 4th editions of Autostrada Biennale in Kosovo. Earlier, she taught as a guest professor at Universität der Künste Berlin Graduate School; curated programs within the 10th, 13th, and 14th Istanbul Biennials; worked as a curator for steirischer herbst 2018; and coordinated and organized different programs and events at Maybe Education and Public Programs for dOCUMENTA (13). She lives and works in Berlin.
