Jan Struckmeier
Jan Struckmeier is a researcher, interdisciplinary artist and curator of performing arts based in Munich, Germany. In his scientific work he studied patterns in theories of humor, communities, and combining both about alternative ways of communication in general. For his artistic projects, he has researched on topics such as solitude aside from the pandemic or conflicts between urban and rural spaces from the Middle Ages till today. In 2022 he founded the collective Ukrainisch Deutsche Welle together with Anastasiya Shtemenko. He now works mainly with Ukrainian and explicit pro-Ukrainian artists and activists to build up spaces in Munich where their perspectives can be experienced in an immersive way – having a discourse-consciousness and listening attitude all together. Since 2024, Struckmeier has focused more and more on his curatorial work. As part of this development, he is researching the non-institutional arts scene in Kyiv – especially the negotiations of decolonization processes, ecologic devastations, and post-soviet urban planning. Besides this, Struckmeier is also a political art activist engaging against the rising fascism in Germany. Therefore, he is constantly working on new spaces (of communication) in order to strengthen alternative ways of creating arts beyond non-diverse and excluding structures. Especially with the format let*s talk – which he curates together with the dance choreographer Sophie Colindres – he creates a format to think about how intersectional theories and practices can establish progressive counter models to existing systems.
